All Spidered Up…

All the pages of The Pet Wiki (that have been written so far) have been spidered. That’s good. Now we have to work on page rank. That’s a lot harder to do. Part of the problem with any new site is, that by definition, it’s new. For search engines to trust you, it’s better if your site has existed longer. We also need to figure out how to get links into the site. Link love from other can do a lot for rank.

Another thing that we need to be careful about is that pages that you don’t want to be indexed aren’t. The mediawiki is very powerful. It comes with a lot of free-be’s. There is a link that goes to a random page which was, unfortunately, spidered. When you look up American Stratfordshire Terrier, instead of getting to the page American Stratfordshire Terrier, it shows a random page. We need to add a no-index tag on that link so that it won’t try to index it. Now we just have to figure out how to do that :-).
